Default 04 cooper s, r53 oil light at idle

Just purchased an 04 Cooper S, and the oil light comes on at idle. I removed the oil filter and there in the bottom of the housing were 2 springs lying loose. As well in the bottom of the housing there was a plastic spring holder still inserted in the base. the spring holder seems to be broken.

Questions:

1. Can this part be purchase separately? and where??( MINI will only sell the complete oil filter housing)

2. I'm guessing that this is the oil bypass relief, is that correct?

3. Are there any other solutions???

4. Does anyone have a picture of what it should look like??

Thanks

Default Spring and valve in oil folter housing

I think I have the same issue. I am in the middle of an oil change and found a spring and plastic valve in the filter housing. I am not sure if it supposed to attach at the bottom of the housing or if it goes inside the filter somehow. The pictures showing the housing and filter show a spring inside the filter, but mine did not have that. This spring seems too small and is over a plastic valve which is also spring loaded. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Chris it was the bypass or relief valve that had come apart but also I was missing the plastic cap, I suspect with the last person in there (last owner/mechanic?). I wasn't able to buy the part separately but only the oil filter housing assembly. You may be able to reassemble what you have if the plastic cap is complete.
