Suddenly the pasenger window does not go up or down.  Fuses look OK.  It also won''t go down from the key button.  Anything I can do besides bring it to the dealer?

Appreciate any suggestions.

Scott

Hi,
Thank you for being open to questions. As a 2004 Mini owner with 58,000 miles, I''m starting to have lots of questions.
Last week, I had a leaking thermostat replaced. Just this morning, it makes a brief whirling sound when I turn the car on. I have turned it on many times during the day. It always makes same brief whirling sound.
Do you know what that could be?

Also, I''m nervous about all the postings about the failing transmissions.
Is there anyway to see if that problem is beginning in my Mini?

Thanks again.

Scott,
This exact thing happened in my Mini last summer.
It''s the window motor and the best you can hope for is that it''s still covered under warranty.

I found that the window motor is a widespread problem that I think should be covered under a recall.  Anyone else with this problem chould file a complaint with the NTHSA at :   http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm

more info and some solutions at this site  http://www.motoringfile.com/2005/08/24/the_mini_window_motor_issue/

Incidentally, I forgot to say that the Fonzi method - hitting the door fixed the problem - for now, for me.  The reason to file a complaint is to encourage Mini to perform a recall or at least free fix on all the defective window motors.

Hello, I got one for you~  First time poster and I work at BMW and we have no Mini dealer in AK.  We have a customer that has an 08 Turbo mini that was brought in with check eng light and they stated everything seemed fine.  We hooked it up and it called out a lean condition, couple miss fires....so we cleared the faults and took it for a quick test drive.

This Mini has NO power, it will fall flat on its face at around 3500-4000 RPM and will hardly pull to 6Ktakes forever.  Seems to have Decent take off but after 4K it has nothing.  We have driven it around and cannot get the check eng light to come back on either? For a Turbo mini its not running good at all.

Any place we should start looking at or checking?  If you want to talk on the phone You can PM me your Number and we can talk?  or just give us a place to look.

Thanks!

Hi Mr. Tech,
My 2009 JCW is Pre-wired for a CD Changer. What is involved if I install it myself ?  Is it something that has to be programmed into the computer? Is it a plug and play? I''m really stumped on this. The Dealer wants $1,000.00 for the Changer and another $150,00 to install it. Really a steep price to install a unit if it just plugs in and works. Thanks again , Ronnie948

i have a 2005 mini cooper s. i bought it used and when i bought it the passenger side door wouldn''t open from the inside, and luckily i found it out before i bought it so they replaced it before they sold it to me. i think i know why it broke though. the mini has a "central locking system" and it''s set for 10mph. basically, the doors lock themselves once you hit the 10mph mark. however, they don''t unlock when i take the key out of the ignition like most automatic locks do. i looked in the manual and it tells you that you can disable this feature, but it doesn''t tell you how. i don''t live near any mini dealerships and i don''t want to take it there and most likely have to pay to have it disabled. is there any way disable it without having to go to the dealership?

also, i have the hands free cell phone kit installed in the mini, but i don''t have the pamphlet for it. and the manual says to see the pamphlet, which i don''t have. is there an online version of it?

and one more question. how do i reset the oil change thing?

thanks for taking the time to read this and i''m looking forward to any help i can get!

Hello, I''m a first timer, and a pre-thank you for your generous offer to help. My problem is major. I bought a used ''02 mini and believe it has an electrical short that has cost several misdiagnosis(including dealer) and dollars. It very recently broke down again and the short caught my eye with a dim burning left rear tail light, when in fact nothing was on at all. The motor would turn over and over as if the fuel pump(which was what I replaced the first time) wasn''t working. I towed it home. Then all of a sudden(as several times before) the tail lights all started working fine, and the car started as if there wasn''t a problem. I believe it to be a short that some how is perhaps a ground that may contact tail lights, fuel pump, etc.?? I am mechanically inclined, but I am not familar with the massive electrical system of this car.  I have a bentley repair book, but is a little vague in that area. Can you make any suggestions?

Thanks,
Gary

I''m shutting this thread down so that these questions end up in their own threads. That makes it easier for other people to search for answers they''re looking for.

From now on, please post all questions in their own thread.

Thanks,
Adam
