After long thought and searching for the right vehicle, we purchased a new mini conv. Yellow and black, and its great. The problem is we have had it one week and of 7 days, its been in the shop 5. Now the dealer is stumped and had to call the "east coast group" for help. The vehicle suddenly shuts off. Lights on the dash flash and the fan comes on high, but the vehicle won't crank. After about 20 minutes the vehicle will start up again. The windows suddenly go down and up and the top suddenly opens. Has anyone had this happen before? The vehicle has a whooping 500 miles on it

Sounds like it's got some major electrical problems. They need to do a complete diagnostics test on the entire electrical system and to a complete check of the ECU.

I second that.....I havent had anyone come in nor heard of that type of complaint.....It does sound like the DME ( ECU/comp ) s going nutz BUT it does not control your windows which you say are operating on there own....That would be the body control module which works, of coarse...the body electronics. Odd they couldnt figure it out when they only have to hook it up to the GT1 which is our control center for anything to do with the whole car and 90% of the time will see what is wrong....the other 10% is human diagnostics.

As for asking for a new one.....I wish it was that easy but Mini will go to the length on figuring out the problems before there ready to hand over a new whip....The only way you will get a new car is 1, if the company gives up on with whats wrong with the car , which i doubt being they made, they should know whats wrong with it....2, want the car at another dealership to check it themselves...3, send a Mini rep down to make a decision on what to do next.....

Good to hear your car was fixed. Sad it was somehting that stupid which im sure was a factory install and should of been avoided.

Now keep on with the heel/toe acting and hope nothing else happens....soon!
