Im thinking abt sparying the intercooler and i wanna hear other peoples opinion on what they think.......The down fall with using nitrous is, it costs roughly $5 per lb and with using a 10lb bottle ( $5x10lb=$50) you will go through it real quick in one nite....Now you have the cheaper way out using Co2 which is atleast half that and just as cold im sure. ( im not a science freak so i dont know which IS colder ) Then you have alcohol which is next to nothing to buy in bulk and the easest to find ( gotta love the 24hr walgreens ) so when ur in a jam you can go buy another few bottle but the only down fall is i think is, it does have a killer smell and will be overwhelming when used in large amounts ( and you know ill be holding th buttin down the whole time ) Now we all know the STI comes with a water sprayer on there top mount and ive heard it is very effective from what my friends tell me who own em. The reason why i want to go this way is , as we all know with having a top mount intercooler we get heat-soked which isnt fun an very noticable as does the STI. If you went the nitrous way you will be in the market of spending anywhere from $350 and up depending on where you find a good deal, the Co2 system seems to be priced out at about the same....As for the water/alcohol injection your in a better ball park in prices being all you need is a top mount cover with nozzle for about $150, a small 1-2L tank for the trunk and a inline pump with a switch up front......Even if you save 50bucks on the water kit you still save in the long run with it not costing much for alcohol and nothing for ice water.....B

Are you talking about the Subaru Impreza WRX STi?

As for spraying the intercooler, I'd go with anything but nitro because of the cost, and they all do basically the same thing. Search around an see what the price ranges are like. Here's a kit that I've been lookin at for a while, and it looks pretty nice:

Are you sure the STi comes with a sprayer? Is that what the Active Valve Control System is?

no...Active Valve Control System is similat to VTEC or VVTi..it is a "on the fly" valve timing system.

Nitrous is the most effective of these options, but is very expensive, and requires an expensive system to control it. on the other hand a simple liquid sprayer like water or alcohol. one of the more intricate systems that i have seen was a basic water sprayer, which before benig sprayed, passed through a system of coils packed in dry ice. smiliar to a "cool can" that you may see on cars which are experiencing vapor lock, the water enters a 1 foot by 1 foot box, runs through about 10 feet of tightly wrapped coils, then back out, and right into the sprayer.

Ok, I figured it had something to do with valve timing, but I really wasn't sure. So does the STi really come with a sprayer on the intercooler?

Has anyone ever tried a Methanol injection system after changing the pulley? You would put the nozzle between the intercooler and the intake. On my '87 Grand National, I was able to up the boost from 16psi to 25psi with the use of "denatured" alcohol, I had to keep the timing the same though. Just seems that if you are spinning the supercharger more to create more boost, it would be a benefit to cool the intake charge even more than what the intercooler can do on it's own. I got rid of the alky kit that I had so I could get one that will handle methanol, there are guys running more boost/timing with methanol than with the C16 Race Fuel.

BTW, anyone know of a Mini S for sale near NM? I'm going to sell my lifted '97 Chevy ext cab so I can get get a '03 or '04 S. Been to the dealer and driven an '05 S twice. Awesome cars! Is there anywhere besides this forum where I can go to learn more about the Mini S? (years/options to stay away from, maintance issues, mods?)

Thanks!
